WHY HIRE A LAWYER

The following is an unsolicited letter from one of our clients to the Internet group “Brits2Vancouver”:

Hi all,
I am very pleased to say that I have just received my PR status, just waiting for the card to arrive now, it should be about 8 weeks.

I have seen questions in the past regarding the use of an immigration lawyer. I did use a lawyer to help me with my immigration process and, as it was an entirely positive experience for me, I wanted to share this with the group, to help those who might be considering using one.

I arrived in Vancouver in August last year. I landed on a one year work permit with a view to apply for PR once I arrived. I was helped all the way by my immigration lawyer, Dennis McCrea, and his fantastic legal assistant, Salome Meier.

My application was submitted on 2nd January 2009 and I received approval of my application on 27th April 2009. I cannot speak for anybody else but it is my understanding that four and half months is pretty quick by most standards.

The reason for the speed is partly to do with the time of year that I applied, however, I think a major contributing factor was that my file, when submitted for approval, was perfect with no gaps. I have heard stories of the PR process being delayed considerably (by months on occasions) by going back and forth with missing information and request for clarification of information.

Because of Dennis and his team this was never an issue and I would not hesitate to recommend his services to anybody thinking of using a lawyer. It really helped me and I was extremely grateful as Dennis removed all the stress of the immigration process leaving me to stress about getting a job, finding an apartment, settling in etc.

Anyway, I hope people find this useful.
